Talking Plant Sense - Discover the special senses of plants.
"Talking Plant Sense" is a campaign that aims to increase awareness and appreciation of the complex and vital functions of plants within our ecosystem. By developing a novel vocabulary and incorporating a Virtual Reality (VR) exhibition, the project allows users to explore the world from the perspective of plants and experience their unique "senses" directly.
Plants' senses are like a secret universe full of fascinating perceptions that often escape us. They don't see with their eyes, hear with their ears, speak with their voices or feel with their hands like we humans do. Yet they sense their environment in their own unique way: they feel the sunlight on their leaves, hear the wind rustling through their branches, communicate through chemical signals in the soil and even feel the touch of an insect on their skin. Their senses are subtle, but their impact on the environment is immense. When we learn to understand the hidden sensations of plants, we open a door to a new understanding of nature and our own relationship with it.
The Talking Plant Sense campaign aims to fill the language gap that lacks specific verbs for the unique sensory perceptions of plants. In a similar way to human and animal senses such as sight, smell and hearing, there is a lack of an established vocabulary for plants. This highlights a linguistic, cultural and scientific discrepancy in the appreciation of plant life.
To foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of plants by creating a new vocabulary and applying it in an innovative VR exhibition. The exhibition allows participants to experience the world from the plants' perspective and directly experience their unique "senses".
The aim is to promote a deeper understanding and increased empathy for the life of plants. Through this direct, sensory experience, the campaign helps to build a bridge between human perception and the hidden world of plants in order to promote a deeper appreciation and a more conscious coexistence between people and plants.
