Forest Design Workshop

What if your way of thinking changed after just one day in the forest?

The forest does something to you that’s hard to put into words – but most people know it. After a walk. That feeling. The effect is almost magical.

And what happens if you don’t just walk through it – but work in it?

Most of us sit in rooms trying to come up with better ideas. New document. Ask AI. Scroll Pinterest. Wait for the click. It works. But only to a point.

Good ideas don’t come out of nowhere – they come from understanding how things are actually connected. And in that process, we’ve cut ourselves off from something that has known for billions of years how systems grow, fail, and reinvent themselves.

In the Forest Design Workshop, we step out of that “digital tunnel.” We go outside, get inspired, learn how natural systems grow, adapt, and survive – and how to translate that logic into our own work.

One stop on my route: Creative Education

I believe we don’t stop learning when we leave university – that’s when we begin to shape our own way of thinking. The Forest Design Workshop is one station on that route at Studio BOXQ. The forest is my lab for it.

The Forest Design Workshop is not a trip.

We go outside. We arrive. We observe what nature has to show – patterns, structures, logics that have worked for billions of years. No prior knowledge needed. No preparation. And we ask: What does this have to do with my work? With what I’m currently working on? With the future I want to shape?

At the same time, something else happens. The forest affects us – physically, cognitively, creatively. That’s Biophilic Design: we are biologically wired to respond to nature. Different environment, different thoughts. We use that intentionally. With methods from Biomimicry, Nature Integrated Design, and Life Centered Design, we translate the system logic of nature into concrete thinking tools. It sounds complex – it isn’t. It works almost automatically. The environment does most of the work.

It’s about how you start to perceive things. Maybe even how you start to think. Systemically. Resiliently. Connected – to nature, to your work, to what actually holds. Some call it Future Skills. I call it finally seeing what has always been there.

No fixed program.

Every team gets stuck in different places. That’s why this workshop is a framework we fill together. We look at where you’re currently stuck – and the forest helps us find new paths.

For creatives, designers, teams – who feel that linear ways of thinking are reaching their limits. Bookable for companies, educational institutions, festivals. 60 minutes or a full day.

An inspiring Saturday dedicated to creativity - new creativity was sparked!
The Forest Design Workshop was exactly what I needed. The event in nature was inspiring, and the instructor's friendly manner and insightful input created a fantastic atmosphere. Interaction and fresh perspectives were guaranteed. I highly recommend this workshop to both new and experienced designers! 😊

This experience sparked ideas for both, my academic
assignments and my personal projects.

It made me rethink how nature can fuel design thinking and reminded me why creating for a more thoughtful, sustainable world matters so deeply. Truly an experience I'll carry with me.

As an architect, I was initially curious—and, to be honest, a little skeptical—about how a workshop in the forest could enrich my work in the office. I was all the more surprised by how profoundly this experience inspired me. Through mindful exercises, shifts in perspective, and the conscious engagement with space, materiality, and perception, I gained new insights into design processes. What was particularly valuable for me was reconnecting with intuitive thinking and moving away from purely analytical approaches. Since then, I've approached projects with a fresher, more open, and more creative mindset. The workshop is a wonderful opportunity to escape the daily grind while simultaneously gaining profound insights into design, creativity, and personal development. A clear recommendation—not just for creative professionals, but for anyone seeking new perspectives. Thank you, Mascha!
